KCR New year gift
The Hyderabad Water Authority began providing up to 20,000 liters of drinking water per month free of charge to households from the first week of December. No less than 9.84 lakh households will benefit from this program.
Officials said the cash orders and directives are issued by the state government, that the board will continue to provide water to eligible consumers, which was released as of December 5.
For households that consume around 20kl liters per month, the monthly bill amounts to around 320-325 rupees, which will not be charged. A team of officials from the Water Board went to Delhi to study the model that is being implemented there.
To ensure that each household receives 20kL water, the Authority extracts an additional 90 million gallons of water per day (MGD) from the Singur, Manjira, Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs. The Board currently draws 536 MGD of water per day from these reservoirs.
If consumers claim that they are not getting 20kL of water, the same would be proven with the water meter readings in their homes.
